We flew into Kuching from Jonah Baru after getting the bus across the border from Singapore. We were met at the airport by Wesley, the owner of the hostel we were staying at. Sea Hare was a little hostel that hasn't been open for very long but it had everything we needed.

We spent the first night looking around Kuching. Went out for noodles, drank tea in a cafe and walked along the waterfront. Quite a nice town really, the people seemed very friendly.

The next day we caught an early bus to Bako National Park, an hour or two away from Kuching. We caught a boat across to the park ...

You could walk down the street, smells of strange fish roasting on carts stood at the croner of every street, past big warehouses and markets, then suddenly a beautiful, British colonial building which used to be a bank, or school or administration building or similar would spring up, then back to the shops and shacks of the rest of the city. It was surreal.

The guesthouse i had found on the internet, for pennys i may add, was very nice in a wonderful sort of mini-manor style to it. I*t was set back from the ...

In the water area there were wave pools, waterfalls, buckets that filled and dumped on ...

Ah, what a good decision to leave Thailand for Borneo! People here are so friendly, no one is trying to scam you (at least they've done it really painlessly if they have...), and accomodation, food, travel is tremendous value.

So, a little background on Borneo...I'm currently sitting in an internet shop in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah - which is the big island in the N. of Malaysia.
We had come to Borneo to see the wildlife but felt we were a bit shortchanged on what we had seen so far. Uncle Tan’s (a tour agent) picked a few of us up at lunchtime from our hotel at Sepilok and transported us to their office 20 minutes away. We had only booked this trip the day before and were not entirely sure what the trip involved. After lunch we went by road to a ferry point where we caught our boat to travel downstream on the Kinabatangan River, the boat ride took around an hour and we were delighted to see even on a short journey many bird species, Silverleaf Monkeys and Proboscis ...

We took a taxi and minivan to Kinabalu National Park Headquarters where we were staying for the first night; the park couldn’t find our reservation we had made that morning. Lucky for us they still had accommodation and ...

We took a boat from Kuching to Kapit, as it was a couple of hours quicker than the bus and we thought it would be a nicer way to travel. How wrong were we! We headed down river from Kuching on a high powered boat that looks like something out of thunderbirds. After 15 minutes we were out in the rough South China Sea sitting below deck in 2nd class in a row of 4 with 2 other guys we had met that morning. We started to hit these huge waves at speed, catching air at times, this made people on the boat scream. The driver seemed to slow down every time we caught a big one and the boat was all over ...

We took a flight straight out of Miri to Gunung Mulu National Park a UNESCO world heritage site. The park is famous for some of the largest limestone cave systems in the world (yes we found ourselves drawn to caves again).

On a first day we visited ‘Clearwater Cave’ which measures some 107km and ‘Wind Cave’ named because of the cool breezes that can be felt down the narrow passages. We took a longtail boat to the caves stopping off at a longhouse en route. After the caves we took a rest at the fresh water pools that you can swim in, where we got to watch the swarms of butterflies, in ...

It turns out the road to the Cameron Highlands is notoriously sickening, winding through jungle covered hills over sharp switchbacks, driven by bus drivers with a tight schedule to keep. At times the road becomes very narrow and the drop-off next to it very steep. When we arrived in Tanah Rata, sort of the capitol city of the Cameron Highlands, we both were a little green.

The first thing we noticed getting off the bus was the weather. It was suddenly cool and temperate, none of the blast furnace humidity of the lowlands. The mild conditions are what drew the British to originally settle ...

If our trip is like going on a series of deepwater dives, than meeting with Mike and Sarah's was like being visited by a diving bell from the surface. A diving bell that we could climb into, relax and drink a few beers in before suiting back up and swimming through the exotic underwater world of our travels.

As Mike and Sarah's unofficial guests at their resort we swam at the beach and at the pool. And up to the pool bar. We even caught a ride with them back to Kuala Lumpur as they headed back to the airport. the taxi ...

On a trip where we rarely spend more than three nights in a place, it felt like we'd practically moved to Koh Tao. We were leaving peaceful, if slightly smelly comfort for a 24 hour trip to Malaysia.

We took the night train from Chumphon to the oddly named town of Butterworth, Malaysia. As we entered Malaysia we were confronted by an official sign that announced the intention to deport any person that appeared to be a "Hippy" or had "Hippy Characteristics".
We hadn't had enough of Borneo's natural splendors yet, so we decided to go to Niah Caves National Park. It is also famous for being one of the major sources of swiflet nests, which are a very expensive delicacy in Chinese cuisine used to make the famous bird nests soup. The nests are made of swiflet spit, we haven't had a chance to try ...

This is a tiny indigenous community (only 7000 people in the world speak Kelabit) deep in the jungles of Borneo. To get there we took a 1 hour flight on a small airplane, a bumpy 12 seater to be precise, to the Kelabit "capital" of Bario.

At the Bario airstrip we were greeted by a few homestay owners, and we decided to go with a nice woman named Nancy.
We had a great time in Melaka. We left Singapore by getting the tube and bus up to the border crossing. At customs I kept teasing Anna saying that I bet she had lost all the customs paper work for S'pore. As it turns out I lost mine!!! So I was hauled off to some little room for 30mins-45mins. Anna thought I was being interrogated/ searched with a bit of anal probing thrown in. As it turns out I was just in a queue, and the man dealing with me didn't know how to use a computer without asking for help every 5 mins. Eventually we made it through into Malaysia and onto a bus to Malaka.

Don't think I could travel peacefully without a camera. So, I grab myself a new cheap Samsung camera worth RM500. Nevertheless, it's a good bargain due to it's quality. In terms of photo snapping, this camera is better than my Olympus. It snaps the photo much easier & faster. Good for me !

After having breakfast, we drove to Mahsuri Tomb. The entrance to this place used to be free but I guess the Government just realized that they could make ...

We came here by choice ...

Left the comfort of Tim's early on Saturday after watching England beat Tonga at 3am (or rather Fi did whilst Dave slept!). Six hour bus journey from Singapore to KL although it was a VIP bus with at-seat food service better than on BA. Initially had trouble finding our pre-booked hotel due to limited street names and all streets seemingly having the same name- got there eventually though and the aircon was very welcome after walking around in the KL heat with our full packs. Amazed at what you can get for your money in Malaysia- about GBP12 a night gets you a pretty nice air-con hotel room ...

This 3-star resort is located at Tanjung Malai, some 30 minutes away from Kuah town, Langkawi. The resort has an interesting Mediterranean concept - of brightly colored buildings, open cafés, waters everywhere and a beautiful boardwalk by the sea.

We took the Superior Room that is facing the sea. The view from the room is breathtaking. It is so amazingly beautiful. I was stunned when I first entered the room. The room is big enough to accomodate 3 adults. The bed is huge. It is a perfect place for a coulple, undoubtly.

What to expect here ? Crocs of course! The road signage to the park is very, very bad. We nearly get lost on our way there. And to make it worse, it's really not worth a visit.

The entrance fee to the park is RM10/adult, RM5/child and RM1/camera. We get there just before the morning show started. The show features 3 young guys doing things like riding on the back of croc, puting their hand in its open jaws backs etc. Frankly, there's nothing to shout about. After the show, theres a crocodile feeding by one of the workers there. Like the show, it's just a boring act.

The only thing ...

Apart from the yachts, there are also a number of high-end restaurants, bistros, fashion and art stores. The boat/yacht used by Datuk Azhar Mansor is also being exhibited here at the harbour.

Telaga Harbour is a very scenic place with great architectural buildings. However, the place looks a bit deserted. Nevertheless, it is still a ...

Island hopping is a good way of getting a feel for Langkawi's surrounding waters. This is one of the must-do activity when visiting Langkawi. Gurl enjoyed it very much especially when the boat hit the strong wave. We really had a great time. We chartered the whole boat for this activity which cost us RM200.

This trip will take you to three different islands which is Pulau Singa Besar, Pulau Beras Basah & Pulau Dayang Bunting. The whole trip takes about 4 hours. We took off from Pantai Tengah @ about 3 pm. The first destination is Pulau Singa Besar. We dont really alight from the boat. ...

There's nothing much here actually. We are just a bunch of "jakuns" who have never ever been to a padi field before. There should be a muzium here but we just couldn't find it. As usual all the sign blocks here in Malaysia are always misleading.

So, we just spent some time taking photo shots at the padi field - in the middle of a hot sun. The people there must be thinking how crazy we were. But we dont care coz being in the padi field is something I've always wanted to do. I've only seen this scene in televisions or magazines but now....I'm really here...holding the padi. Awesome !!!

Well, this is our last stop on our 6-month hiatus to Asia/Africa. The weather? Not so good. A bit of a disappointment, as well as the fact that alcohol costs more than anywhere else we've been because it is mostly Muslims here. And the Middle Eastern school holiday is still going full throttle, so the hotels are all booked (even in Melaka).

Melaka is a pretty quiet little city. Worlds away from Kuala Lumpur, but has its own little charm to it. It's located on the Straits of Melaka, so our hotel overlooks the water.
