                  &lt;p&gt;I can't quite believe it but we've been on the road with Dragoman for 17 days now and they've passed in a flash.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;We got down to Kande Beach about a third of the way down the west coast of Lake Malawi on Christmas Eve and are here for four nights to chill out and relax.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I think I need it. Last night we camped at Chitimba Beach camp site further up the coast and set up our tent on the beach so that we got a nice sea breeze from the biggest lake in Africa.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I haven't found out quite how big it is yet but it aparently takes up a third of the country, looks like the ocean, has ... &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

                  &lt;p&gt;Matt's friends told us that we hadn't seen "real" Africa yet, because so far we'd only been in South Africa and Namibia, and those are 2 of the most developed countries in Africa (espcailly South Africa).  Malawi was supposed to change all that.  It did. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Malawi is a real third world country with real third world problems.  It is, thankfully, a lot more stable now than it was in recent history.  A new president is there and is focussed on rebuilding infrastructure, which is part of the reason that Malawi has such good roads.  The roads there were even better than in Namibia. Malawi is said to be getting better all the time, as their government is changing.  Their last president ruled like a king, making all sorts of strange rules, like no men entering the country were allowed to have long hair (having border officials actual cut off ponytails), and the banning of Simon &amp;amp; Garfunkel's "Cecilia" after a bad breakup. Though the new government is corrupt, education is on the rise and the people's heart is ever strong.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Our new group consisted of the same three guides (Piet, Nel and Dzingy) and Patrica (swiss from the last ... &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

                  &lt;p&gt;Likoma Island is on the Mozambican side of Lake Malawi, measures 17sq km and is home to less than 6,000 people, who also happen to be about the friendliest people you can meet. Going south the Ilala only docks once a week at Likoma and then five days later you pick up the returning ferry. The crossing was approx 9hrs and we felt like intrepid explorers from the late 19th century as we slept out on the upper deck and were met by a stunning sunrise which even Becs managed to marvel at, at 6 in the morning. The ferry is furnished in hardwoods, brass fittings and wicker chairs so we felt like true ... &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
