Today we finally got to go on our "Captain Cook" Island day trip. We had originally booked this trip from the Sheraton from Tuesday onwards. Each day we had to post pone the trip until finally we canceled it. Good for us that we did. The trip was quoted on the brochure as $97FJD per adult and half price for kids. Sheraton were charging me $102 per adult and $51 per child. Do the maths and I nearly paid $153 FJD for our day trip.. WELLLLLLLLL Tubakula advised us that there was a special being quoted for our trip that children 10 or under would be free with any paying adult fare. So my ...

The Fijian breakfast was FJ$15 (a little less than US$10) and included fresh fruit (mango and papaya from trees on the property), cereal and milk, toast and real butter (Mom!), a ham/cheese/tomato omelet, orange juice, and tea. Ridiculous/Awesome! We were completely stuffed, so we decided to spend the day lounging. Prasad arranged for us to take a boat to Nananu-I-Ra island, just off Viti Levu, for the day for FJ$30. Gretchen went out to get cash to pay the boat guy, and while she was gone, I hung out in the ...

We had been looking forward to getting to Fiji for a long time, it was our planned rest and relaxation stop where we could finally plan our route home to England. Having acquired a few guide books in the US we were well set for some beach time reading.

However, as we arrived into Nadi airport to see torrential rain, and all the newspapers talking about a possible tropical storm coming in from the north west we thought we'd made a bit of a mistake.
We were up at 7:15 to go diving, after a little confusion about what time it was. They live here on “Fiji Time,” which means there is no time.
Our second island destination in Fiji was the beautiful Nanuya Lai Lai, a much smaller island than Naviti, the first one we explored. We chose to include Nanuya Lai Lai in our Fiji itinerary because of a famous movie that had been filmed there, "Blue Lagoon" with Brooke Shields.
We made it to the idyllic western islands in Fiji, the Yasawa's. Steph had been here 4 years prior (already!!!). It was spectacular! YES we dove! 3 dives Chapel, Tavewa Point, and Bonsai.... as you would guess Bonsai was awesome. Ate wonderful meals prepared by lovely Mary, snorkel right near the beach, and chased Nemos. What a relaxing way to end our trip in Fiji. Now to New Zealand.

We arrived in the middle of a huge thunderstorm and torrential rain, with fears that it was going to be like this all week.

Our first night was spent at the Beachside Resort just on the outskirts of Nadi, swimming in the pool (when it eventually ...

The boat was large ...

When I heard that it was possible to do a shark feed dive in Fiji, I was 100% certain that I would do it. Having snorkelled with black tip reef sharks in the past, the prospect of diving with Bull sharks and even Tiger sharks (which I didnt think was possible) was the next step for me.

When the boys decided that this was something that they were not not going to do, I had to pluck up the courage and do it by myself.

The location of the dive was Beqa Lagoon, located just off Pacific Harbour on the south of Viti Levu- Fiji's main island.

My dive was booked for saturday the 16th ...

Time for our two week island-hopping adventure where we would spend 2 nights each on 7 different islands in the Mamanuca and Yasawa groups to the North West of Fiji's main island. Our first port of call was Beachcomber, a tiny desert island reached via a very choppy 1 hr boat ride, accompanied by a number of our friends from the Feejee Experience bus. It was still raining heavily (despite being told the weather would be fine on the islands) so we settled ourselves down for a 48 hour scrabble-a-thon. The first glimpse of sunshine came half way through the second day, at which point we all ran ...

We decided to spend our first week touring Fiji's main island, Viti Levu, with the Feejee Experience (sister company to the good old Kiwi Experience). Aboard the familiar green bus we set about getting to know our fellow travellers and the crew - comprising of our guide Té, the driver Arvin, 5 trainee guides, and the big boss lady. There were more of them than us!

The aim of the tour was to give us a glimpse of 'the real Fiji' rather than just the white sandy beaches and turquoise waters shown in the travel brochures - it was raining too.
Sunday 29th April

My penultimate day at Vomo Island. Steve is out trolling (fishing moving along or something like that) with the guys from the activity centre. They have been getting excited about it for days now, and have some extra equipment to try to pull in the big fish. Steve would definitely stay on this island forever, he loves the life the guys here leave. It is very idyllic. Yesterday we had rain but it was still beautiful. We hadn't really stayed in one place for a good time since Koh Tao.

After a long transfer from Beachouse to the jetty, we arrived to a friendly welcoming committee who played and sang songs to greet our boat. We were then invited to a Kava Welcome Ceremony - the traditional Fijian celebration. If you have never had Kava before, you're not missing out. But if you ever go to Fiji you have to have it. ...

So we got to lay in the same hammocks as Bianca Gascoigne, Colleen Shannon and Sophie Anderton (who, conincidently, we saw at Heathrow at the start of our trip!!). ...
