But we managed and were rewarded with little traffic and interesting towns along our way.

I convinced Tole to take a shortcut off the trail map (we'd been convinced for some time that the route, which seemed wholly random in its off-river course, ...

Our ride started out well, with a morning of climbing through the beautiful Black Forest in Germany. Our goal was to reach Donaueschingen, the source of the mighty Danube (Donau in German). See the photos for a view of the Danube's rather comically inauspicious start in downtown Donaueschingen. The river continues from there for 2845 kilometers to finally empty into the Black Sea in Romania, near the Ukrainian border. We started thinking, hmmm, the Black Forest to the Black Sea could be a pretty cool way to go.

The Danube Bike trail itself is definitely easy riding as far as cycle ...

Well ended up getting a job on the boat 'Willpower' which i had done day work on. Left Barcelona at 6am for Cannes, France in a 12hour crossing! Packed my bags and out of here...goodbye Barcelona! Crossing was pretty crazy with 40knot winds, 3m swell and then we lost our sterring! Had a couple of crazy tips where we almost rolled, but apart from that, made it into Cannes around 9pm requiring some major electrical work. Really pretty place, although we were right in the middle of the port surrounded by identical superyachts, surprise surprise! Went out with the crew for dinner, then an early ...

I have been keeping it in mind that today would be shopping day. Time to buy all those souvenirs you feel bound to bring home. However I’m less keen to really get down to it.

I have breakfast as usual, but I’m not feeling my best and don’t leave Nicky’s until about 11am. According to my map there are no buildings in this area between Gentpoort and Katelijneburg, but there is. It looks rather like ...

This brought me to the main canal that more or less circles the old city. It is a beautiful place to walk, lush and green with tall shady trees to protect you from the sun. I turned right and worked my way along to the first of the old medieval gateways into the town, Gentpoort (Gent Gate). The town walls are long gone, all that remains are the gates, but these are as ...

We checked out of our hotel around 9:15am and decided to head toward Park Guell where we would eat our breakfast.
Arrived very tired after longest bus trip yet, 10 hours from Amsterdam. So had a quick walk around the shops and restaurants within a block of the hostel and crashed out for the night.

Next day the weather was beautiful for the first time on the trip so we made the most of it by going on a six hour Bike Tour around Berlin. Stopped at Museum Island, the remaining section of the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie, the recently completed Holocaust Memorial and the Reichstag. The guide was a fellow kiwi from Christchurch and was brilliant at his job, having studied German history at ...

The owner there travels to the Czech Republic and stocks the store, Sew Bedazzled, with a variety of glass beads. If you are in the area, you can stop in and create your own jewelry in the back, where they have tables set up.

Our first day in Edinburgh, we got quite alot accomplished. For lunch, we ordered sandwiches from an upscale eatery called "Subway". I wish we had places like that in the States, real scottish submarine sandwiches made fresh while you wait. We took our fancy meal and ate in the Princes Steet Gardens, a huge part in the center of Edinburgh. While we devoured our lunches, we we entertained by an older man playing the accordian. After we finished, we gave our performer some money, got some ice cream for dessert, and began our hike up to Edinburgh Castle. It was a tough one at times, but the view ...

There are two hot tubs and a pool here with trees and bird sounds piped into the place. Very relaxing and chilling. Plenty of bikin's and cocktails around. Stayed there until our massage which was great. Couldnt resist heading back to the Solarium afterwards with a book and almost ...

Hi all, sorry its been so long. I have been having too much fun in Germany! We were met at Regensburg train station by my good friend & German sister Isabel (who was an aupair in Sydney 6 years ago), also her aunt & uncle, Christa & Joseph. We were taken to a Greek temple high on a hill overlooking the Danube river! The temple was similar to the Parthenon in Athens. The view was stunning! We then headed to a German pub & I tasted my first dark german beer. Germans drink there beer quickly & I stuggled to keep up! We settled in nicely at Christa's beautiful home 45mins outside of the ...

Today we navigated our way through London’s underground to visit the British Museum. It boasts an impressive collection of historical artifacts dating all
the way back to about 6000 BC. One day
in this museum is not nearly enough time to study all that it contains, but I
tried my best to take it all in. There
was a large collection of ancient Greek statues which, interestingly enough,
were replicas that the Romans had created from the original works. There also
was a large collection of pieces of ancient Greek and Roman architecture to
enjoy.

The museum
also contained a massive ...

Today, in my opinion,
was one of the most educational days of the trip so far. We visited the Glaxo Smith

manufacturing sites.

Our day started out quite early and after we became experts on the British rail
and tube system we arrived at our destination. Ware was a lot quieter than
London and not really the setting you would expect to find a manufacturing
facility that is making pharmaceuticals for over 130 countries and employing
about 1800 people.
The facility itself ...

Everyone slept in a little longer this morning since we did
not have to leave the hotel until 9 am
for King’s College. The pharmacy school was much closer than our previous
scheduled activities and we only had to take a short train ride to reach our
destination. We found out that London
still has a rush hour at 9 am!
The train we needed to take was so full that five students could not squeeze
in. Then only two of the remaining five students could fit on the next overcrowded
train. Even though our morning transit was hectic, we managed to regroup
without losing anyone and made it to ...

Today was yet another fast-paced, activity-packed day in London. The day was beautiful, partly cloudy with
temps in the upper 50’s. Leaving our
hotel at 7:15 this
morning, we then traveled another two hours on the Tube and the train to arrive
in Huntingdon, where Huntingdon Animal Life Sciences is located. After arriving in Huntingdon we were met with
several very official-looking employees of Huntingdon who drove us to the
facility. For many of us, this was our
first time riding inside a European car, and it was very interesting! Some of
us (ahem) tried to hop into the drivers’ side, ...
