We arrived in Havana on Monday night -about 2am British time- and after collecting our bags got a taxi to our hotel. On the journey we drove along an almost deserted motorway -apart from some cyclists and old cars- and saw three broken down american cars by the roadside. Our hotel is great, we arrived to flamenco, quickly followed by a thunderstorm before being shown to our room. There are only 5 rooms in the hotel, all off the tropical, central courtyard with huge lofty ceilings and ceiling height doors. Yesterday we decided to get our bearing in La Habana Vieja so walked around the old ...

We left our beloved Playa for the last time and had a hectic last minute check-in at Cancun airport, and after an hour found ourselves in…Represent REPRESENT, CUBA! (these are lyrics from a famous song by Orishas which we couldn’t get out of our heads for the duration of our time in Cuba…that and ‘Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera’). These families then offer everything they can on top of your bed cause of course this is the income they're not telling Castro's beanies about!

After weeks of ...

A group of men play dominoes outside crumbling colonial buildings, shrouded in the haze of their fat cigars and the dust kicked up by the classic cars grumbling by. Not so with Havana where every potential cliche is a wonder in waiting. After only a brief 6 days Havana has been marked down as the best city of our trip, in fact possibly one of the best cities we have ever been to.

Breezes Jibacoa is an adults only resort located between Varadero and Havana. It is 30 minutes away from Havana so it is a great place to stay if you wish to explore outside of the resort and head into the city. Second time visitors might enjoy a change from Varadero as Jibacoa is more secluded and closer to nature. Breezes Jibacoa is the only resort in the entire surrounding area and is nestled in the Yumuri forest. If you are into the night life, I would not recommend this resort as when the lights go out, star gazing is your only form of entertainment asides from the short entertainment ...

All of the resorts in Varadero offer a 1 day catamaran excursion to this uninhabited island called Cayo Blanco. We aren't big on organized tours but this one was relaxing and very romantic. We enjoyed it so much when we went 2 years ago that we privately chartered a tour for our wedding last year. It is a one hour sail to the island from the town of Varadero. The best part of the trip is not only the island itself but getting there. They trolly a few lobster nets while they motor out to the island. You see nothing but never ending ocean around you while you listen to mellow cuban music. ...

We invited 30 of our friends and family and were married at this resort! This was my third visit to Cuba and by far, Iberostar Varadero has been the best yet. It is only 1 years old so the plantation isn't as lush as other resorts but the facilites and service was phenomenal! The food selection was the best we've had in Cuba and the beach front wedding ceremony surpassed even my dreams of an ideal wedding. I've seen and sold several resorts as I used to be a travel consultant. I highly recommend this place.
