Thanks for stopping by! I've decided to blog about my Leave for Change experience in the hope that a) I can share some amazing stories, b) it will convince some of you to take action to make a difference in the world and c) to keep you in the loop that I am indeed surviving just fine in Botswana (I hope!).

On the brink of my journey to Botswana (5 more sleeps!), there's a lot going on in my head and my heart that I'm going to attempt to download into the following not-so-brief paragraphs. This entry is more for myself than anything, but as it's fairly rare for me to bare my soul, you may ...

Vancouver has not one but three mountains for skiing. Mount Seymour, the furthest, is most popular with families and has the gentlest terrain. I am headed for Cypress Mountain, which is one of the sites for the 2010 Olympics. It has more of a ski resort feel than Grouse Mountain, which even if you are not a skier is worth a visit for the views from the cablecar and the many restaurants up top. At Cypress, Jonathan my guide, shows me the freestyle, mogul runs and half-pipe (I would need a helmet to do the latter), as well as taking me down the snowboard giant slalom, skiercross and boardercross ...

Last stop on this part of the trip. I took a stroll along the river, which sits at the bottom of a deep ravine. An eagle soared in circles overhead. Eventually I heard the roar of the waterfall. First you see the American Falls which are flat but nonetheless pretty spectacular. Then the mist from the bigger Horseshoe Falls begins to fall on you as you approach. I'm sure greater wordsmiths than I have described this sight, but I haven't the time to crib them and pass them off as my own. So I will just say, it is as impressive as I imagined. You can get very close to where the water passes over ...

Toronto is very much the big city. In fact it reminded me of New York. It is a flourishing financial centre for Canada so has lots of tall skyscapers downtown. It is famous for the CN Tower so I paid it a visit. It's a bit like a huge concrete needle, sticking 553m up into the sky (apparently there will soon be something bigger in Dubai, but until then, this is the tallest free standing structure on earth).

A very fast elevator ride brings you to the observation level (346m).
I've had a couple of days at Mt. Tremblant now. It's a skiing area in the winter. At the moment the trees are turning so there are lots of gorgeous red, orange and yellow hues all around. Seems odd to see ski lifts run through deciduous forest (although higher up you get firs).

A steady drizzle yesterday, but nevertheless, I decided to climb Mt.Tremblant. It took 2 hours. The rain grew heavier as I went higher. I was wary of putting my hood up as I was afraid of bears (I was foolishly carrying a large jar labelled "HUNNY"). By the time I got to the top I was pretty soggy. And the view? ...

I`m sat in a cafe near the bus station. I just missed the 9am bus, so I have a few hours to kill. I stretched a coffee out for an hour while reading the paper (Montreal Gazette) now I'm internetting.

Highlights of Montreal: Took a walk up Mont Royal yesterday and communed with the squirrels. Nice views over the city and beyond to the very odd looking olympic stadium. Montreal feels a bit like Paris (what with the french speaking and all). People happy to switch to english once they recognise my appalling accent. Weather has been overcast the last few days (since I entered Canada in ...

No, I am not talking about work.

I was reminded often that we live embarrassingly well in Canada. That our problems are the ...

I'm from the the Great Plaines and my family decided last summer, that we would take a trip to Canada. It was awesome and so exciting. Mom was a bit of a coward so she stayed behind while dad, Adam and I went up to see the top of the falls. It was so excillerating to see the falls splashing down in front of us. I wanted to fall into it and swim away the Canadian waters. I wanted to be Indiana Jones and the last crusade. Then it hit me, I was really hungry and I needed to ...

There was a further 3 hours time difference so at 11pm we felt like it was 2am - no problems coaxing the boys to bed tonight!

We stayed at the YWCA hotel which was very central and fabulous, nice and cheap (we had a shared bathroom down the hall), very clean large room and lovely people. There was a communal kitchen where we met some ...

Within two days of been back I was working...Impressive. I'm currently doing reception work temping - theres alot of work available so its not to difficult to find!

Have managed to ticky tour around a little bit more discovering new things constantly.

Went out to a Lacrosse game a few weeks ago.
Today it was a quick muffin and coffee before hopping on the hotel shuttle to take us back into the railway station where we pick-up the car. I once again take the wheel and try my best to drive on the right hand side of the road. I find that I have a tendancy to sway to the far right of the road. Jasper is a quiet town and the traffic is very light which is a good thing.

The first stop we make is to the Jasper Tramway - a gondola ride that ...

Today it is really cold outside - and as we looked up at the mountains, it looked like it was snowing!!! Not long after, as we were walking around and taking heaps of photos, a few flecks of snow start falling on us.

We head off along the old highway towards Banff at around midday. We are limited on this road due to the native wildlife in the ...

We find that we do not have an included transfer with our package, so while all the other guests are mulling around the foyer waiting for the coach to arrive, we have to take a taxi to the train station. On arrival, we are greeted by a very nice fellow that loads our luggage onto a tolley and takes us into the train station and join the end of the queue.

We are booked on the Red-Leaf tour, which is in the standard carriage. The ride up in the lift takes only 58 seconds but don't let that fool you, once there it is high. Oh yes, it is really, really high. And thin. Really thin. We kept driving, because black bears are powerful animals that mind their ...

Arrived in Kelowna Saturday at 7 p.m. after picking George and Irene up at the Vancouver airport. Had to stop in Hope, B.C. so George, the great white hunter and explorer, could sample the great Canadian beer: Molson Canadian. Nice dinner with Craig and Tara Emter that evening. Boys off to Shannon Lake Golf Course for breakfast and golf Sunday morning. Great weather. Anna, Irene, Lei, Susan, and Ray joined us for drinks after golf on the clubhouse deck, overlooking the course and Shannon Lake, and then we went up the mountain to Jack and Lynn's place. What a view! One of our favourites. Tara ...

I do not know what they have now but I suspect substantially less because of automation.

The museum ...
