The town has a a great Turkish influence which the Catholics do not share. Mostar has mosque prayer ceremonies several times a day ...

Our choice of honeymoon location surprised a lot of people, but from the first few minutes in Mostar we knew we'd made the right choice.

Mostar is in Hercegovinia and sustained a great deal of damage during the war in the 1990s. It is a city of terrible tragedy, but shows the incredible resiliency of the human spirit. Walking through the city you see horrible reminders of the war, buildings all over the city sit abandoned and suffer major damage (if not structural, than cosmetic). At the heart of the city is a beautiful bridge that was completely destroyed by fighting, but has now ...

Ive always wanted to go, given that the majority of what i studied in International Criminal Law focussed upon the Bosnian war 92-95.. so an important historical visit was required. Really it was an absolute eye opener (as expected), and surreal. The footpath is littered with crater holes from shells and bullet holes left by Serb snipers. Many ...

Sarajevo…

I left work at 3pm, went home, packed ate, conversed with the cleaning lady and at 5 left for the train station. I packed very little baggage, a small daypack that was half filled with camera stuff, books, film, and music. Arrived at the station 20 minutes before my train left, bought my ticket and spent 10 more minutes trying to locate my cart. If you don’t know Hungarians like to be different, the only country in the world that shows a clock of how much time has passed since the last metro, and well dealing with trains, its almost the same, the numbers are random, following ...

Mostar feels like a minature version of Turkey, except with no turkish people but it still keeps the coffee. If you ask for a Bosnian coffee they;ll just tell you 'no'. We thought they were just always out of it, but then we discovered that its a bit of arse to make- so they basically didn't want to make it unless you were really keen.
Today was our last day in Sarajevo, we joined a tour from the hostel we stayed in on the first night, it was absolutely amazing! We first visited the famous tunnel that was built during the war. The purpose of the tunnel was to transport food and weapons into the city. The tunnel was 800m long and went 5m under the ground from the city out underneath the airport to the 'Bosnia Free Zone' where the Serbs were unable to bomb.
We arrived back in Mostar after our quick pilgrimage and began to explore the town. Mostar was a pretty central spot in the fighting from the war in the 1990's and you can see the scars from it everywhere. Probably every third building has been shelled out and had trees and weeds growing in and on top of them. All of the shelled out buildings have warning signs to not go in or explore because they haven't been searched for mines yet, even ten years later they are just sitting there. The buildings that are still functioning are full of bullet holes from all the fighting. It is a very grim place ...

After our gorgeous train ride through the mountains of Bosnia & Hercegovina we arrived in the capital of Sarajevo. Sarajevo is the city famous for hosting the 1984 Winter Olympics and ten years later being the center of the fighting during the Balkan wars. Our hostel picked us up right from the train station, which is always a plus, and took us right into the center of Old Sarajevo where our room was located. We went out and explored the old town which has a large pedestrian area and a huge market/bazaar area, grabbed some dinner and crashed for the night.

The next day we did the war ...

haven't been recognized by the Catholic Church. Well we arrived there

I left Belgrade ready for something new. As I have already mentioned, I was in a bit of a rut--looking at building after building was just not doing it for me anymore really, and I had started to get to the point where a late bus or a surly checkout lady at the supermarket really got to me.
