Argentina is known for its steak and wine, and as I've already eaten more amazing steak than i've ever had in my life, it was time to hit the wine (trail)!

Mendoza is the big wine area on the west side near the Andes and border with Chile, so another bus later and I'm in Lao Hostel in the city.

A couple of days after arriving I took a bus out to the vineyards and hired a bike to tour the bodegas. It's not exactly a 'Sideways' experience, peddling through the vineyeards, most of them are along a busy main road and it was a job sometimes to stay on my battered mountain bike while ...

buenos dais.

Had a great little stay in Buenos aires at a comfy but plain little hotel right in the middle of the action. Forget all that! Hot, sweaty, tanned and topless men.....perfection already?....yes, pretty much!

But no, seriously, this is about as sexy and steamy as it gets! The mass of hot, sweaty, tanned and ...

So the next time he shouted out I turned around and shouted at him to shut up. This worked to some degree and I could see that the other passengers on the bus were ...

We had no problems getting to Calafate. Our hotel was very nice Cauquenes des Nimez, set near a nature reserve 15 mins walk from the centre, but very quiet and pretty plush.
Before anyone says anything, yes, I know...I've spent most of my time in South America backtracking... .revisiting places Id already been to before.....Buenos Aires (3 times!), Santiago (twice!), Salta (twice!).....and now Mendoza....er........ .three times?

So Buenos Aires, being the capital and transport hub of Argentina......you can understand why most travellers use it as a base for their travels around the country and return there a number of times. Santiago....well, Annie had never been and we wanted to see Valparaiso and Northern Chile...plus I had spent round 1 of Santiago ...

After disembarking the Adventurer Denny and I spent another two comfortable nights at the ByB Nahuel in Ushuaia before leaving for Rio Gallegos, El Calafate and El Chalten. With a touch of "Groundhog Day" we had to leave twice. The first morning we awoke at 5:45 to take a taxi to the autobus terminal and then waited in a light shower for 20 minutes only to learn that the bus had been cancelled due to high winds that made the ferry across the Straits of Magellan unable to cross. So we hired a taxi back to the B&B and fortunately they had our room available for one more night. We repeated the ...

It's a big city full of European-style buildings, food stalls that were hoppin' even at 2am on a Wednesday, flower stands, cobbled streets, antique shops, and lots of people. An estimated 18 million people live in the Buenos Aires province, which is about 45% percent of Argentina's total population of 40,301,927. Most of Argentina, especially the Patagonian region, is very sparsely ...

On our first bus I was sat opposite some german girls, both had overnighted from Mendoza on the bus and the one nearest me had the worst BO I have even smelt!

2. Tucuman was actually quite nice, the centre had plenty of shops and that evening there was a large music performance in the main square which was interesing ...

Our flight from Buenos Aires to El Calafate took us through Ushaia bizarrely, considering that our original flight was to go there! Anyway, because of this 2 hour detour we got to El Calafate much later than expected. We kept our eyes peeled for Dave but he definitely wasn't on the flight! He turned up a day later with tales of ripoff taxi drivers taking him to the wrong airport in B.A. he was NOT amused!

We had booked ahead for once and stayed in a fantastic hostel called Y Keu Ken, the staff were sooo friendly there totally made you feel at home.

We immediately signed up for a ...

Buenos Aires, we had been told many a good story of this capital city. We had high expectations and were not disappointed. Breathtakingly beautiful, great culture, fantastic restaurants and bars with an undercurrent of tango. We loved it. So much so that our first task on arrival, even before we found a place to sleep was to get our flight out of B.A changed. You see, we hadn't really thought this one through when we were route planning and we had a flight that left the very next morning to go to the southern most tip of South America. Very very foolish. However, we had a cunning plan, as ...

I don´t think it´s too far in terms of kilometers, but there´s a border crossing (two actually...one on each side), a ferry crossing, and almost no road is paved. So it´s a very long day.

The highlight of the journey was easy to choose. When we boarded a ferry, not a fancy ship but a regular ferry to take you over a body of water where no bridge exists across the Straits of Magellan, about five toninos (similar to dolphins) frolicked by us ...

During the two days we stayed at the hostel, I had confirmed several times with the lady who owned it that, even though she did not have a room for us upon our return from the hike, we could leave two bags with her during the hike. Each time I broached this subject, she assured me that this was not a problem. Usually, there is a storage closet or something at the hostel or hotel where all the bags are kept during a hike.
